Life can be challenging with the loss of a family member. Add unexpected bills on top of that and your everyday life may seem overwhelming.  See how FirstBank stepped in to help a customer in need of an “Act of Goodness.”

Meet Wilma.

Wilma Butler has been a FirstBank customer for nearly 20 years. Sadly, she lost her husband in 2019 and has recently battled with a large Social Security reclamation, putting her in financial distress. Wilma reached out to her local bank to arrange small payments. However, as a retired individual trying to make ends meet with a fixed income, she was struggling to pay this debt. That’s when Amelia Sierra, Greeley Assistant Branch Manager, thought Wilma may benefit from a helping hand from FirstBank.

The surprise.

Amelia joined forces with her colleagues, Paige Dopler, Greeley Branch Manager, and Diane Wood, Northern Colorado Retail Manager, to help Wilma during this stressful time. They reached out to the Social Security office to help Wilma get reimbursed for the payments she already made and also provided her with a workout loan to help with the remaining balance.

When Amelia called her to come in and sign paperwork for the loan, Wilma didn’t know she was about to get another surprise. Upon arrival, Wilma was greeted with a beautiful flower arrangement and balloons because it just so happened to be her birthday. Wilma learned that FirstBank would cover the remaining reclamation balance of $1,500. On top of that, she was given $700 in gift cards to help buy groceries and other necessities. Additionally, FirstBank made a $600 cash deposit to help cover any additional expenses.

Amelia said this “Act of Goodness” led to a lot of hugs and tears. Wilma was so thankful for her gifts, she told all of her neighbors when she went home who then called FirstBank and thanked the branch for its kindness.

A big thanks to the entire Greeley team for making a difference in Wilma’s life. Check out efirstbankblog.com to see more ways FirstBank shows up for the communities it serves.
