March 20, 2024 FirstBank believes in ensuring diversity is represented at each level of the organization. In March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by recognizing and celebrating some of FirstBank’s women in leadership. Today we’re featuring Patricia Johnston, Senior Vice President of Loan Servicing. Hometown: Dixon, California Years at FirstBank: 11 years Other positions held with organizations/boards: Present: Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation– Board Member Past: Education First– Board Member Community College of Aurora Foundation- Board Member United States Tennis Association– Recreational Coordinator In three to four sentences, describe your experience in getting to where you are today. I never thought I would be in the financial industry, but when I was laid off in 2011, I focused on finishing my Master’s degree. In one of my classes, Dave Baker (FirstBank President at the time) came and presented about the Management Trainee program. Like many others, I thought I would apply and work here for a year or two and move on. However, this career path was nothing like my previous one, and I had to grow and adapt to succeed. My resilience paid off and 11 years later, I’m still here! How has FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” impacted your life and your career? Banking for good and its philosophy of “doing what’s right” for customers, communities and employees has always aligned with me personally as my parents instilled in me the value of hard work and goodwill. Being a part of FirstBank’s culture feels like an extension of my own values, and it is a great feeling to know I work for a company putting “banking for good” first. What is the best career advice you have for the next generation of leaders? What would you tell someone just starting out? You are usually your own worst critic. It’s ok to make mistakes, just own up to it and continue learning. Considering March is Women’s History Month, which historical figure/s would you most like to meet and why? There are so many brilliant, smart, and brave women to choose from—it’s hard to pick just one. I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to meet Amelia Earhart. She was a trailblazer in a time when the opportunities for women were so limited. I imagine her determined, ambitious, and adventurous nature would be contagious. “This page may contain links to external websites. These links are displayed for your convenience.
