Paul’s Coffee & Tea began with a simple love for coffee and the connections it creates. After years of working in the industry, owner Paul Waitinas decided to bring his passion home by opening a space where people could gather and enjoy something made with care. What started as one cozy neighborhood shop in Louisville, CO, has grown into two thriving locations that reflect the heart of the Front Range.

We sat down with Paul to learn more about his passion and what expansion looks like for local business owners.

1. What makes your business one-of-a-kind and how has it evolved since inception?

We are a small specialty coffee roaster with two locations in Louisville and Superior, CO. Our full-service coffee shops serve seasonal coffees, teas, treats, and sell wholesale coffee beans. We’ve grown significantly since we first opened. In addition to opening a second location, our roastery now supplies coffee to other shops and offices on a wholesale level. Over time, we’ve also built strong connections within our community, becoming a local gathering spot that people know and trust.

2. How has your relationship with FirstBank made a tangible difference in achieving your goals?

FirstBank has been amazing to work with. They’re extremely responsive and ready with answers whenever we have questions. They also played a crucial role in helping us secure a SBA loan and grant, making it possible to focus on immediate and long-term growth.

3. Excluding the pandemic, what was the hardest decision you’ve had to make for your business?

Opening our second location was one of the hardest decisions. Expanding is always a big risk filled with questions and uncertainty, but it was an exciting opportunity to grow. FirstBank was very supportive throughout the process, helping us navigate the financial side of things.

4. What does your business stand for, and how does that show up in the way you lead or operate day-to-day?

We are committed to great coffee and great service. We also take pride in creating a welcoming space where people feel valued and at home. Supporting our local community is at the heart of everything we do, and we keep that focus in mind with every decision we make.

5. What is your proudest achievement as a business owner or leader?

The little successes are huge for us, and we are happy to serve our community and take care of our 25 employees. After the Marshall Fire in 2021, we were especially proud of how our team came together to support others. For two weeks after reopening, we gave out free drinks to anyone who needed them. It was an incredible reminder of the strength and generosity within our community.

6. What does success look like for you in the future? What’s next for your business?

For me, success means running both shops while mentoring my team and strengthening our local community in the 80027. Ultimately, I hope our legacy is simple: that people enjoy our coffee and leave a little happier than when they arrive.
