In March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by recognizing and celebrating some of FirstBank’s women in leadership. Today we’re featuring Nancy Alpizar Hernandez, Louisville Branch Manager. Hometown: Boulder, CO Years at FirstBank: 9 years and 6 months Other positions held with organizations/boards: A Precious Child — Volunteer Intercambio — Volunteer The Latino Chamber of Commerce — Volunteer 1. In three to four sentences, describe your experience in getting to where you are today. It has been such a wonderful experience. Starting as a teller, I never thought I’d be a Branch Manager. I’ve made lifelong friends, met incredible customers, and had the opportunity to learn from several impactful mentors. FirstBank has been great to me, and for this, I have invested my time and energy into making this job a career. Having a good work ethic, being determined, and always challenging myself have helped me get to where I am today. 2. How has FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” impacted your life and your career? FirstBank’s “banking for good” philosophy has impacted my life and career in many ways. I have met many amazing people through FirstBank’s Volunteer Time Off (VTO) benefit, which gives employees several paid hours to use annually volunteering for nonprofits and causes they care about. FirstBank’s education reimbursement program has also given me the flexibility to go back to school and earn my Bachelor’s degree. 3. What is the best career advice you have for the next generation of leaders? What would you tell someone just starting out? I would encourage the next generation to not give up on your dreams and to surround yourself with people who challenge you. Growth happens when you are outside of your comfort zone. 4. What is one thing you’re most proud of that you’ve accomplished while working at FirstBank? One thing I’m most proud to have accomplished while working at FirstBank is my professional growth. Working here has helped me develop many skills, such as fostering relationships, leadership, public speaking, critical thinking, and more. I appreciate how FirstBank promotes from within and I’m proud of the wonderful people I have met throughout my career, specifically my mentors, who pushed me to believe in myself and overcome challenges. 5. If you had your own talk show, who would be your first guest? If I had a talk show, my first guest would be Ellen DeGeneres. I enjoyed watching her shows and the variety of guests she had, from celebrities to ordinary people with great stories. 6. Considering March is Women’s History Month, which historical figure/s would you most like to meet and why? Rosa Parks – I admire her courage and determination to make changes in this world. If it weren’t for her fighting for women’s and civil rights, we would still have so much progress to make. Frida Kahlo – I identify with Frida, who was born in Mexico. I also admire her passion; although Frida had a tough life, she continued to pursue her interest in becoming an artist and is now a world-famous artist. Anne Frank – She has been described as curious, creative, and optimistic. I admire having those characteristics living in a world like she did. “This page may contain links to external websites.
