For the first time in the 21-year history of the competition, the World Cup will be played in Russia. The world’s highest attended sporting event will take place across thirteen cities and sixteen stadiums, from June 14 –July 15. Although the U.S. Men’s National team failed to qualify, there are still some great local spots to take in the games. First a few facts about júego bonito, (the beautiful game):

  • The first World Cup was held in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930 and only included 13 teams invited by FIFA, the governing body of the event.
  • Only two cups have not been played since the competitions inception; 1942 and 1946 due to World War II in Europe, North Africa, and the South Pacific.
  • Brazil has won the most across all competitions with five titles, followed by Germany with four.
  • In 2026 the number of teams to participate will increase from 32 to 48.
  • Russia will spend an estimated $12 billion to host this year’s cup.
  • There will be 64 matches played in just under a month.
  • This may be the last World Cup for legendary players Liónel Messi (30) and Cristiáno Ronaldo (33).

With that being said, here are some of our favorite spots for great savings and great atmosphere.
