In early November, FirstBank executives held customer appreciation events at five branch locations across the state – including Thornton, Lakewood, Silverthorne, Colorado Springs and Denver – to surprise unsuspecting bank customers with gift cards ahead of the holiday season.

Customers were encouraged to stop by and spin a FirstBank prize wheel to win FirstBank branded items. What they didn’t know was that we were giving out more than sunglasses and other minor prizes. In total, we surprised over 130 Coloradans with more than $30,000 in gift cards to help them with holiday expenses. The gift cards ranged from $200 to $500, which will help longtime customers like Cathleen give her family and foster kids a memorable holiday season.

The goal was to encourage lucky recipients to “give it forward” to their favorite charity on Colorado Gives Day (Dec. 7), a 24 hour online giving movement that supports over 3,100 charities.

The events are part of FirstBank’s “Give it Forward” campaign. Since the campaign launched in 2014, the bank has surprised community members by posing as vet techs to pay for vet billspumping free fuel and bagging free groceries, all to spread goodwill.

Colorado Gives Day, presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank, raised over $50 million for over 3,100 nonprofits last year. The bank has been the presenting partner of Colorado Gives Day since its inception in 2010, helping the program raise more than $307 million, in total, for charities statewide.
