September 28, 2021 FirstBank surprised a Valley student, Dei’Jonae Moore, with $5,000 to pay school related fees as she enters her freshman year at Scottsdale Community College. FirstBank East Valley Market President Joel Johnson teamed up with Mercury Guard Sophie Cunningham to present the check to a shocked Dei’Jonae, who arrived at Footprints Center expecting only a tour of the arena. Instead she was treated to school money and gifts from FirstBank and the Mercury. Just as exciting for Dei’Jonae, she got to hang out with Sophie, and even snapped a few Instagram photos with the Mercury Guard. Dei’Jonae played basketball for Mesa High School and was twice named East Valley Defensive Player of the Year. She said she’s now looking forward to studying medicine, with hopes of becoming a doctor in the future. “I’m surprised by this wonderful gesture and very excited to go to college. I’m so grateful to FirstBank and the Mercury for helping me pursue my dreams.” In addition to school funds, Dei’Jonae received a signed basketball and Mercury swag, a FirstBank backpack filled with goodies, and tickets to see the Mercury in action this season.
