In May, we celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by recognizing and celebrating some of FirstBank’s Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander employees. Today, we’re featuring Daniel Hong, Learning Design Specialist. Hometown: Arvada, CO Years at FirstBank: 3 years Other positions held with organizations/boards: FirstBank’s Asian Employee Resource Group – Member 1. In three to four sentences, describe your experience in getting to where you are today. I graduated from CU Boulder with a degree in Creative Media and Technology and became a teller at FirstBank right out of college. Initially, the teller position was meant to be a placeholder while I looked for a job that fit my degree, but then I saw an opening for a Learning Design specialist at headquarters. I jumped at the opportunity, and now, three years later, I still enjoy being on the Learning and Development team. 2. How has FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” impacted your life and your career? FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” has shown me what it means to value relationships and take pride in working for a company that does the same. The way FirstBank cares for its customers and employees makes me proud to be here. “Banking for good” has inspired me to always approach my work with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to long-term success for the bank and the communities we serve. 3. What is the best career advice you have for the next generation of leaders? What would you tell someone just starting out? My best career advice for the next generation of leaders is to focus on continuous learning and adaptability. Building strong relationships and networking is also essential. No one achieves success alone, and meaningful connections with others can help provide guidance, open doors, and create opportunities you might not have imagined. 4. What is one thing you’re most proud of that you’ve accomplished while working at FirstBank? I can’t limit my accomplishments to just one. I’ve had the opportunity to contribute in many ways, from making and editing videos companywide to participating in FirstBank’s Asian Employee Resource Group. 5. If you had your own talk show, who would be your first guest? My first guest would be Faker. He’s a professional gamer from South Korea who gained the most fame from his achievements in League of Legends and has become an icon in the esports arena. Over the years, his skill, dedication, and consistency have made him a legend in the gaming community. 6. Considering May is AAPI Heritage Month, which historical figure/s would you most like to meet and why? If I could meet any historical figure, it would be Bruce Lee. His achievements as a renowned Asian American are incalculable, and his impact on the martial arts world and popular culture is profound. Bruce Lee revolutionized martial arts with his phrase, “using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation,” and broke barriers for Asian representation in Hollywood. He challenged stereotypes and proved that talent and determination know no racial boundaries. “This page may contain links to external websites. These links are displayed for your convenience.
