After planting 50,000 trees and supporting one of the largest post-fire reforestation efforts in Colorado, FirstBank has introduced a new initiative to underscore its “banking for good” philosophy: Recycled Ocean Bound Plastic (ROBP) Visa® Debit Cards. In an effort to reduce ocean waste, the bank partnered with Second Wave®, which uses recycled plastic sourced from the sea.

Check out 8 Ways FirstBank is Helping the Planet to learn more about the bank’s planet-conscious initiatives.

How Does ROBP Work?

Due to the lack of waste management systems, most plastics in coastal regions end up in the ocean. Recycled Ocean-Bound Plastic is sourced from the sea, sent to recycling facilities, and repurposed into new products like outdoor seating, shampoo bottles, or bank cards.

What’s the Change?

FirstBank debit cards* will now feature the Second Wave® logo located on the front and back of the card, indicating it’s made from Recycled Ocean-Bound Plastic. All card functions will remain the same, from Tap-to-Pay and chip-enabled technology to quick and easy card management through online banking**.

How Can You Get a ROBP Card?

FirstBank began distributing the Second Wave® cards in September for the following designs:

  • Orange
  • Green Mountain
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Business Visa® debit cards (BVIS)

The new cards are sent out in a phased approach as the existing non-ROBP card supply depletes. We will also mail Second Wave® cards for new accounts, re-orders and expiration re-issues. To avoid any unnecessary plastic waste, we will not complete any forced or mass re-issues.
