In three to four sentences, describe your experience in getting to where you are today. Moving from Hong Kong to the United States was a big leap, but I embraced the challenge and built a new life from the ground up. Starting as a teller at FirstBank, I worked hard, adapted quickly, and took on every opportunity to grow. With the support of great coworkers and management teams, I broke the cultural gap, gaining expertise in banking, mortgages, and community outreach. Nineteen years later, I’m proud of the career I’ve built, the connections I’ve made, and the impact I’ve had in the banking industry and the local Chinese community. 2. How has FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” impacted your life and your career? FirstBank’s “banking for good” philosophy has shaped my career and personal growth by reinforcing the importance of community support and professional development. The company’s commitment to ‘doing the right thing’ for customers, communities, and employees has given me a strong foundation to build lasting relationships and help others achieve financial success. I’ve made a meaningful impact through various leadership opportunities and community initiatives, especially within our local Chinese community. 3. What is the best career advice you have for the next generation of leaders? What would you tell someone just starting out? For the next generation of leaders, my best advice is to stay adaptable and proactive — success comes to those seeking growth rather than waiting for it. Build strong relationships because no one succeeds alone. Integrity and hard work will always set you apart, so do the right thing even when no one is watching. For someone just starting out, I’d say be patient, ask questions, take initiative, and embrace challenges as learning opportunities — your efforts today will shape your future success. 4. What is one thing you’re most proud of that you’ve accomplished while working at FirstBank? One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of at FirstBank is my role in supporting and empowering the local Chinese community through financial education and banking services in their native language. As a Chinese business representative and mortgage loan originator, I’ve helped countless individuals and business owners secure home loans and achieve their financial goals. Bridging language and cultural gaps while fostering trust within the community has been incredibly rewarding. Knowing that my work has made a real difference in people’s lives makes me proud. 5. If you had your own talk show, who would be your first guest? If I had my own talk show, my first guest would be Ken Chee, former FirstBank Officer. His vision and dedication to helping bridge language barriers in banking is truly inspiring. His efforts to start the Chinese helpline profoundly impacted countless individuals and families. He’s a pioneer in ensuring the financial system is accessible to everyone, regardless of language. His legacy continues to shape how businesses interact with diverse communities. Having Ken as a guest on my talk show would provide invaluable insights into leadership, cultural understanding, and the power of small actions to create lasting change. 6. Considering May is AAPI Heritage Month, which historical figure/s would you most like to meet and why? For AAPI Heritage Month, there are so many remarkable historical figures to choose from. If I had to pick, I’d love to meet Bruce Lee for his martial arts skills and his efforts to break down racial barriers in Hollywood. His philosophy of self-improvement, determination, and cultural pride has inspired generations worldwide. I would love to hear about his journey in overcoming prejudice and how he used his platform to create opportunities for Asian actors in the entertainment industry. “This page may contain links to external websites.
