Working at FirstBank for the past 11 years has afforded me many an opportunity to volunteer for local organizations, and this weekend I am doing just that!

I have joined the FirstBank of Colorado Springs market Relay for Life Team.  The relay for Life is an event created by the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness for those that fight all types of cancer worldwide.  I am excited to be a part of this event for MANY reasons.

First– I know, work with, care about, assist, and love many people in my life that have been touched by cancer through many channels.

Second– I LOVE contributing in any way I can to a good cause.

Third– I get to spend the night, in a tent, in the middle of a track field with people I work with.

Fourth– We get to dress-up one of our male loan officers as a female to “solicit” further donations at the actual event.  (Heard the guy last year even shaved his legs!).

There is to be one person form our team doing laps at all times over the 12 hour period.  There will be a Survivor’s Dinner, a Survivor’s Lap and luminaries will be lit during an emotion filled ceremony for those that have sadly lost the fight.  From what I hear, exhaustion got the best of some of them last year and I’m sure I’ll be tired myself, but  I’m preparing for any and all situations.

Currently on the “Mental Checklist”;

-Bake a cake for the cake walk

-Biggest Jug-o’-coffee I can find

-Blanket

-Noshies (My Grandmother’s word for snacks)

-Jacket

-Scotch tape (for the eyelids)

Glow sticks, bracelets, necklaces, shoelaces, etc.

Next event on MY calendar? Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure this September, and the Signature Chef’s Gala for the March of Dimes this October.
