In this week’s installment of “Money Saving Tips,” we’re sharing smart ways to save more at home and abroad. Here’s what you should know now:

  • Money-Saving Tips for Moms. Creating a sound, reasonable household budget is only the first step to saving your family more money. Reporter Maria Lalonde of U.S. News & World Report shows how moms (and dads) can take saving one—well, actually eight—steps further. In her article, “9 Indispensable Money-Saving Tips for Moms,” Lalonde suggests mapping out menu plans for the week, checking your local paper for fun, free events, choosing generic products over their name-brand counterparts, and practicing an eco-friendly lifestyle at home.
  • Summer Vacation Bargains. So now that your family has saved a bunch of money thanks to the tips you learned from Maria, what now? How about a well-deserved family vacation! Sarah Pike has the inside track on how to find the best deals on a summer trip in her article, “6 Tips to Track Down the Hottest Summer Vacation Bargains.” She suggests looking for deeply discounted destinations, cutting out the middleman by renting directly from owners and bundling your travel expenses by purchasing multiple services at the same time. For example, if you need flights, lodging and a rental car, consider booking a package deal, which is usually less expensive than booking each component separately.
