This week, California commuters were treated to free fuel on behalf of FirstBank. When unsuspecting drivers pulled up to gas pumps at one Indio, CA gas station, they were met with signs stating that gas was 100% paid for by the bank. Local FirstBank Officers were on hand to explain this was all part of FirstBank’s Give It Forward campaign to promote Coachella Valley Giving Day on March 1, 2023. In total, FirstBank covered $5,000 in gas purchases for morning commuters.

The surprise and delight initiative is meant to inspire goodwill and encourage recipients to consider “Giving It Forward” by donating – as little as $5 – to their chosen nonprofit on Coachella Valley Giving Day.

“With the price of gas, groceries, and essentials on the rise, we hope this gesture provides a little financial relief to commuters,” said FirstBank California Market President Jake Wuest. “The smiles and reactions we’ve seen firsthand demonstrate even small acts of kindness can make a big impact. We hope folks recognize they also have the power to make a positive impact on a family, individual, or cause in need, and consider giving to a CV Giving Day nonprofit of choice on March 1st.”

FirstBank has held similar Give It Forward events in Colorado and Arizona. In the past, FirstBank Officers have posed as vet techs to pay for vet bills and bagged free groceries to encourage individual giving nonprofits in those areas.
