FirstBank believes there’s unity in diversity. In February, we observe Black History Month by recognizing and celebrating some of FirstBank’s strongest Black and African American leaders.

Today, we’re featuring Lakewood Banking Officer Eugene Isingizwe.

Hometown: Tanzania

Years at FirstBank: 2 years

In 3 to 4 sentences, describe your experience in getting to where you are today.

I graduated from MSU Denver in the fall of 2019 and began the Management Trainee Program in the summer of 2019. As a Management Trainee I got to learn every aspect of FirstBank in six months, and was promoted to a Banking Officer with a focus on business development. With a great support system I was able to learn valuable skills and shape my career as it is today.

What gets you motivated to come to work and do your best?

The fact that we are making a real positivity impact in the community and working with a great support system motivates me.

FirstBank’s guiding philosophy is “banking for good.” With that in mind, what does doing “good” mean to you personally?

Good to me means prioritizing the well-being of our customers.

How has “banking for good” impacted your life and your career?

I sometimes find myself bragging about our good work to family and friends and feeling a sense of pride that I work here. As far as my career, it makes what I do more meaningful and enjoyable and that motives and excites me to come to work every day and do my best.

Given that we’re FirstBank, what is the first piece of advice you would give someone on their first day at FirstBank?

Don’t be intimidated, ask questions, and be yourself.

Considering February is Black History Month, which historical figure(s) would you most like to meet and why?

I would love to meet Martin Luther King Jr. because he shaped history in a profound way and paved a way for a more equitable future.
