FirstBank believes there’s unity in diversity. In February, we observe Black History Month by recognizing and celebrating some of FirstBank’s Black and African American employees.

Today, we’re featuring Information Security Associate Manager, Chase Nimmer.

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA

Years at FirstBank: 1 year

In 3 to 4 sentences, describe your experience getting to where you are today.

I have been interested in technology since I received my first computer at 8 years old. My stepfather was an engineer for a telecommunications company, and he stoked my interest in computer projects which led to a technology career spanning 23 years. Working at several Denver companies has given me valuable experience and knowledge that I apply to my position at FirstBank daily.

What is your best career advice for the next generation of leaders? What would you tell someone just starting?

Find your passion and be yourself! Twenty years ago, individuality was not nearly as valued as it is today. When you find a place that allows you to be yourself (like FirstBank does), prepare to flourish.

How has FirstBank’s companywide philosophy of “banking for good” impacted your life and career?

Most folks from Colorado have heard the FirstBank slogan. However, it wasn’t until I began working here that I saw they aren’t shallow words; they are practiced every day. I am constantly impressed with every employee’s professionalism and genuine desire to help others. It makes me proud that I was accepted to be part of this team.

Considering February is Black History Month, which historical figure/s would you most like to meet and why?

My great-grandfather’s parents were enslaved. After the Civil War, they were not. They were farmers, and their children were farmers. Then, my grandfather became a dentist.  I would love to meet my great-great-grandparents to understand how their lives were and how they continued moving forward in the face of such adversity. I would love to convey to them how their pain and sacrifice have paid dividends for future generations.
